DynaVap M 2020 Portable Vaporizer

The DynaVap M 2020 no longer comes in a plastic tube like previous models, it comes in a recyclable cardboard shell which is actually meant to be used as a case, rather than just something that you throw away. The device clips inside and the shell lightly locks together when you close it around the device. I have heard from some people that they much prefer this case as it fits in your pocket better, but a number of other people have said that they miss the plastic tube, so for this one I think it depends how much you actually use a case for it.

The M 2020’s new Captive Cap will work with the entire DynaVap lineup, either stainless or titanium tips, and at first glance it looks very similar to the old cap. When you take a closer look though, you will see two small indentations on the side of the cap. These indentations fit just past the edge of the tip, and they serve to hold the cap in place, while still allowing it to freely turn and remain quite loose. This means that you get great airflow, but you no longer have to worry about your cap being too loose and falling off. This is a fantastic improvement to their original design, it’s a logical and straightforward fix.

Now let’s go down to the tip itself, as you can see it has a totally new design when compared to the M 2019 tip. The bowl now includes the adjust-a-bowl feature previously seen in DynaVaps titanium tip. The adjust-a-bowl lets you reduce the bowl’s capacity by a considerable amount to help reduce your herb consumption. This is by far one of my favorite features and I strongly encourage everyone to try it out. I was a late adopter of the smaller bowl, I figured it wouldn’t be enough, but it’s amazing how much vapor you can get out of that small bowl.

The very edge of the tip has a number of cut outs to give you improved airflow, and the exterior of the bowl has a new flat geometrical sort of shape with multiple notches cut out at the top to add even more airflow capacity. The fin design is different as well, it has two groups of two fins, a nod to 2020. Overall I like the look and I love the function of this new tip, my only complaint is that the edge of the tip is sharper than the M 2019. So if you’re loading directly from your grinder be careful, because it’s possible to scratch your grinder. The sharper edge does however make it super easy to just press the tip directly into a bud and cut out a little chunk so that you can vape it, this is another thing I encourage you to try for maximum flavor.

Looking at the body of the DynaVap M 2020 itself, the mid-section between the tip and the air port has been totally redesigned compared to the M 2019. I really liked the look of the M 2019 and I still do, but I feel that the M 2020 has a more refined and tasteful design. It’s still interesting visually as well as in a tactile sense, but it’s a little more understated, rather than just being sort of cool and random looking. It looks great in the light and still has a warning track to let you know you’re getting close to touching the hot tip.

Moving down a little further we get to the real flagship section of the device in terms of imagery. It includes the new chiral air port, which is really two air ports, then on the reverse side for the rocker there is an awesome looking Metallica style M. The airport improvements are noticeable right away, when you rock the device back-and-forth, rather than opening and closing the whole air port you can open and close one side of the airport. This can lead to some interesting airflow patterns inside that help clear the device. One thing you have to try with this device is not covering them at all, it seems like the air flow patterns intersect and it only allows so much air in at a time, so it’s totally usable when you just don’t cover your airports. On the reverse side the rocker is still a rocker, but now has an M cutaway that really makes the device stand out visually. This was the first thing that I noticed and it’s such a strong feature, I think it really ties the device together.

Looking at the mouthpiece you’ll notice that it has an ever so slightly increased taper compared to last year's model. This doesn’t make much of a difference in feeling when you are using it in your mouth, but it makes all the difference in the world when you are using it with a 10 mm female joint. Rather than sort of sitting on the edge of the joint it now slides in there like a gentleman and sits in the device properly so that you can use it hands-free. Remember when I said that the device works well if you don’t cover the airport? Give that a go hands-free if you want the easiest experience using your Dynavap M 2020 through water.

If you pop out the condenser and look inside the mouthpiece you’ll see a little cut out ridge. This makes it super easy to get your condenser back in and lined up perfectly every time, you don’t need to worry about struggling to find the right position, it just automatically locks into place and sets it exactly where you want it.

The DynaVap M 2020 is a massive improvement over the previous generations. A lot of times the next generation of a vaporizer comes out three years or four years later and it isn’t tremendously different, whereas DynaVap are pumping out a vaporizer one year later that is a marked improvement over their last model. To me this thing really feels like the device they were trying to make all these years, and now the design has really matured and come into its own. It hits hard, is super efficient, and you can heat it with almost anything, so if you don’t have a Dynavap you should really consider getting one, and this is a pretty obvious place to start.
