Puffco Peak Pro

The Puffco Peak Pro is the most consistent way to do dabs. You’ll get the same experience every time, removing all the guesswork. The upgraded bowl is 40% larger and built with a higher quality ceramic to last longer and handle even the hottest hits. It’s embedded with a sensor that maintains the optimal temperature throughout each hit, so it doesn’t matter how much or little you inhale, the resulting vapour is always the same. Compared with the previous Puffco Peak, this model has been completely modified to be more reliable and robust while increasing the overall performance.

Besides the improved bowl, the Puffco Peak Pro has a new integrated carb cap equipped with directional airflow for better flavor and draw. The vaporizer body also features a significantly larger glass reservoir to hold more water and apply better cooling. Overall it sits just under 18cm tall and looks so slick you’ll want to have it out display.

The improvements aren’t just on the hardware: the new Peak Pro app is quite incredible, with customization options so you can tailor your hits exactly to your liking. And as a finishing touch, the Peak Pro 2021 includes the most functional case we’ve ever seen. The vape fits snugly inside, along with the tools you need for your session. It makes it the perfect grab bag to take on the go.

The Puffco Peak Pro atomizer has been completely redesigned as a closed system. This means you can no longer disassemble the atomizer to repair it, change the bowl, or take the ceramic out to torch it clean. This isn’t great news if you already spent money on inserts or want to upgrade or repair the coil, but personally, my main grumble is not being able to torch the bowl clean.

On the plus side, the Peak Pro atomizer has a new kind of connection and it seems much beefier overall. The ceramic bowl is 40% bigger, so if you like to do big dabs this is perfect. Just remember never to overload it or it’ll run down into your atomizer. The atomizer itself now has three built-in sensors that continually monitor and maintain the temperature of your bowl, regardless of how hard you inhale.

The Puffco Peak Pro has a much-improved battery system, while USB-C charging means it charges much faster. The 2021 model also features wireless charging for on-the-go. Puffco also sell the Peak Power Dock which has some cool unique features but adds $120 to the already hefty $400 price tag on the Peak Pro. Fortunately, I've found it works with many other wireless chargers.

I was initially happy when I learned the Peak Pro has an Auto Sleep function. Yet the device I have does not automatically turn itself off. This may be an individual fault, or perhaps Puffco withdrew this functionality before it went to market. I know they want the Peak Pro to be able to connect to the app, so Bluetooth has to be switched on. But not all the time. So make sure you turn your vape off manually or you’re going to come back to a dead battery.

Puffco say you’ll get an average of 30 dabs per full battery charge. I got 24 dabs during testing, though I didn’t turn it off between hits. The heat-up time is impressive at about 30 seconds and there’s a cool light show while it’s heating up. It gives a nice strong vibration to let you know when it’s ready to hit.

The Puffco Peak Pro is a straightforward electronic dab rig to operate. First remove the glass bowl from the base and fill it with water, adding just enough to cover the inlet holes. Dry any excess water underneath before reattaching to the base, aligning the air hole on the front of the glass with the air path on the base. Attach the glass to the base by pushing the front in first before pushing the back down.

Hold down the main button for three seconds to turn the vaporizer on. There are four levels of temperature for the Puffco Peak, blue being the coolest temperature, followed by yellow, red, and then white as the temperature increases. You can switch through these with a single click of the main button. They do come pre-set, but you can customise both the temperature and colour of each of the four temperature settings using the Bluetooth app. To pair your Puffco Peak Pro with your phone, have the app open and press and hold the power button. It will turn on and off before glowing blue, then you can select your device from the “available devices” on the app. The LED light display can also be tailored in “Lantern Mode” to shuffle through the four different modes: pulse, wave, disco, stealth.

Pack your device when it’s cool, making sure not to over-pack it or oil could spill out of the atomizer. Double click the power button to start the heat cycle. It heats up in as little as 30 seconds and will let you know it’s ready with a triple flash/vibration alert. It’s best to inhale gently for maximum vapour production. A quick double click will boost the heat and add 15 seconds to your session, but the beauty of the Peak Pro is the length of the boost feature is completely customizable too. To lock your device and save battery life when not in use simply hold down the button until the light flashes.
